Concrete floor polishing is a technique for producing a highly durable, light reflective surface that is aesthetically pleasing and requires little maintenance.  The process uses diamond abrasives to work the surface of the concrete in a step by step method where each step is more refined than the previous.  A progressively finer abrasive is used in each step of the process.  Polished concrete surfaces increase light reflectivity which can help reduce energy requirements.  The polishing process can be done on existing floors or new construction.

LEED AND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF POLISHED CONCRETE

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a certification offered by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) that awards points for efficiency and the control of environmental impact of buildings.  According to the USGBC web site, "The LEED green building certification program encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through a suite of rating systems that recognize projects that implement strategies for better environmental and health performance."  #

POLISHED CONCRETE = GREEN
According to LEED- What makes polished concrete green?  Polished concrete:

* reduces impacts from construction or demolition
* reduces heating and cooling loads
* is an alternative to hazardous components
* releases minimal pollutants
* is exceptional durability or low-maintenance

Polished concrete is extremely environmentally friendly because the existing concrete within a building or home is used!  #
